CREWE HAS ONE OF CHESHIRE'S BEST KEPT STATIONS At the recent Awards Evening of Cheshire Best Kept Stations, Crewe Railway Station won the Cheshire's Year of Gardens 2008 Award.
The Awards were made by Chris Brown, Chief Executive of Visit Chester and Cheshire, the local tourism board, at the Salt Museum, Northwich on Tuesday 20th January 2009.
Six mayors, the Chairman of the County Council and the Sheriff of Chester joined over 90 other guests in congratulating Crewe and the nine other stations that received awards.
Chelford Railway Station was declared the overall winner for 2008.
John Hulme, Organiser of Cheshire Best Kept Stations said "We could not let 2008 pass by without making a CYOG Award. Here at Crewe Railway Station they had a competition to design the garden; a local college constructed the garden and a local Garden Centre provided the plants. We would also like to thank Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council for their support".
On presenting the Awards, Chris Brown, thanked all those that had helped make Cheshire's Stations more hospitable, tidier and welcoming. He reported that Cheshire's Year of Gardens 08 - which was the focus of 2008 Awards - had been a great success and had made a significant contribution to the increase in the visitor economy. The task now was to sustain everyone's hard work into 2009 and beyond.
