13th February - Continuing Development of the Heritage Centre

The Council Of Management authorised the submission of an application for a grant to enable significant capital investment to be made in the Centre over the next few years and a pre-application was submitted to The Heritage Lottery Fund in Mid November.

The lottery team met with CHC delegates on the 24^th January 2012  to discuss it and to tour the site. We are awaiting a written report although it is obvious that a long task lies ahead to satisfy all the Lottery administrative requirements, to consult with a large number of people, organisations and businesses and to produce preliminary designs for all the new buildings.
 

27th January - Railwayana Auction 21st April 2012

The next Railwayana Auction to be held at Crewe Heritage Centre is on the 21st April 2012. An early list of lots along with all details of the auction is contained on the document available for download below:

6th November - Winter Opening

Don't forget that the Heritage Centre is open right the way through the winter season at weekends!

We have a Beer Festival on 3rd and 4th of December plus a few days of Santa Specials to be announced in the very near future!
 

6th November - Update!

Crewe Heritage Centre hosted two very successful events over the weekend of 29/30th October. The first event was the Railwayana Auction which was held in the Exhibition Hall and featured the sale of nameplates from main line locomotives such as 'Freightliner Evolution' from 57008 and 'Ironbridge Power Station' from 58005 along with other items of railway memorabilia.

The second event was a private event for rail enthusiasts group PLEG (Preserved Locomotive Enthusiasts Group) who hired the site, primarily to travel over as much of the railway track on site as possible. The event raised over £600 for the Heritage Centre.

16th October - Crewe Heritage Centre auction catalogues

The 'Alpha Lots' catalogue for the forthcoming Railwayana Auction is now available to download.

Please see the Event Calendar section.

Note the Alpha Lots are sold in a sealed bid system and are not part of the main auction and all bids should be in by 11.30am on the day of the auction.
 

10th October - Crewe Heritage Centre auction catalogue

Please note that a catalogue for the 'Alpha Lots' will be shortly available. Note the Alpha Lots are sold in a sealed bid auction and are not part of the main auction as above.
 

2nd October - Family Fun Day announced!

A brand new event has been announced, this time in conjunction with Barr Retail Construction - a name you may recognise from the Tesco development next door to the Heritage Centre!

The Family Fun Weekend takes place next weekend - October 8th and 9th between 10am and 4.30pm. Come and see dumpers, rollers, fork trucks, loading shovels and other construction vehicles up close in a very safe environment away from the building site.

Demonstrations will be taking place along with various competitions and various goody bags will be handed out to all the children. Barney Begood, Barrs very own Bob the Builder, will be on site to educate children against the dangers of playing on building sites.

All the Heritage Centre's exhibits will be on show including refreshments, brake van rides and also a chance to drive our diesel shunter as part of our 'Driver for a Fiver' experience.
 

30th September - An Invitation...!

CREWE HERITAGE CENTRE – CONTINUING DEVELOPMENT

An Invitation to Participate.

The Council of Management and the Friends of Crewe Heritage Centre are planning the further physical development of the Centre and wish to exchange ideas with all who can subscribe to The Trusts ‘objects which are “ To advance the education of the public in the social ,economic and industrial history and development of Crewe and its surrounding area and in the history of railways and their part in the history and development of the area.”

Contacts have been made with several local groups and an inaugural meeting was held on the 24^th Sept to determine the way forward.

The next meeting will be held on Saturday 22^nd October at 14-00 hrs at the Heritage Centre to determine:

1] the content of a proposed application for a lottery grant and

2] the content of  an exhibition  in 2012 to celebrate Crewe’s 175^th Birthday.

All people with ideas are invited to attend.

18th September - Driver for a Fiver and Postman Pat

A massive "Thankyou" to everybody who attended our Postman Pat and Driver for a Fiver day on Sunday - proving that there is something for everyone at Crewe Heritage Centre. We hope you enjoyed meeting Postman Pat and Jess the cat!

We would also like to express our gratitude to Royal Mail and their staff for providing a selection of their vehicles, and of course to Postman Pat for giving up his time to visit us!

Please keep an eye on the events section of the website as Postman Pat promised us he would return just before Christmas just in time to deliver some special presents!
 

17th September - Class 47 Diesel locomotive 47192/D1842

Following some sterling work by a number of our volunteers, the first preserved Class 47 main line diesel locomotive has been repainted and is now looking very smart - a big difference from a couple of weeks ago!
