Driver For a Fiver!

Have you ever wanted the chance to drive a train? Well now you can at the Crewe Heritage Centre!

We are the only site in the North West to offer the opportunity to drive one of our diesel locomotives on a regular basis, supervised by one of our expert volunteers.

For as little as £5, you get the chance to drive our Class 03 diesel shunting locomotive for one full return trip along the demonstration line under expert guidance.

If you fancy taking control of something a bit larger, our main line Class 73 diesel is available for a slightly higher price of £10 for one full return trip. [note price is held at £5 for the remainder of 2011]

At the end of your experience, you will be presented with a commemorative certificate which will be signed by your instructor.

Further opportunities including steam locomotives are anticipated to become available and will be advertised on the website, so keep an eye out!

In order to take advantage of this, please note the following:

• Age limits apply. For safety reasons, all participants must be over 13 years of age and any participants under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult

• 'Driver for a Fiver' will be allocated on a strictly first come, first served basis

• 'Driver for a Fiver' is strictly for one return trip on our demonstration line, any request for a longer turn will, regrettably, be turned down

• Crewe Heritage Centre reserves the right to refuse 'Driver for a Fiver' to anyone who its nominated representative(s) believe is under the influence of alcohol or any illegal substances

• Crewe Heritage Centre representative(s) will accompany the designated driver at all times and trainee drivers should obey all instructions given. Failure to do so will result in the termination of the driver experience and no refund will be offered. Please remember, your safety is paramount!

• A maximum of two people may accompany the designated driver during their time driving the locomotive

If you are looking for a longer and more in depth session, Crewe Heritage Centre holds regular 'Driver Experience' days throughout the year.
